The Pajama Game

Pajama Game the musical performed by Reading Operatic SocietyThe Pajama Game was performed by Reading Operatic Society at The Hexagon on 22-26 September 2010.

Based on Richard Bissell’s novel 7 1/2 Cents with book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell and music by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, The Pajama Game tells the moral tale of a union dispute at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. First performed on Broadway in 1954, two of the show’s numbers, Hernando’s Hideaway and Hey There, went on to chart.

In the Reading Operatic Society production a cast of 41 included principals Kevin Gingell as Myron Old Man Hasler, Emma Powell as Gladys Hotchkiss, Howard Timberlake as Sid Sorokin, Maggie Preston as Mabel, Tony Slevin as Vernon Hines, Adam Butler as Prez, Adrain Tang as Joe, Tania Pratt as Catherine ‘Babe’ Williams and Samantha Fields as Mae. The producer and choreographer was Jill Morgan and musical director John Lawes, alongside the Reading Operatic Society’s residential production team – David Parsonson production manager, Carol Hodgkinson stage manager and Kim Hollamby lighting designer.
