WHO CAN JOIN?

All Shook Up 2011
All Shook Up 2011

Anyone over the age of 16, who has completed their compulsory education, may apply to become a member of the society. Membership is subject to an audition.

While young people are actively encouraged, the Society has a good range of ages in its membership.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The subscription for membership is £60 per year for adult members although the amount due is reduced if payment of the subscription is made at the beginning of the subscription year. If you perform on stage a show levy will also be due (see below).

Full-time students and under 18s are charged an annual subscription at half the adult rate.

The subscription year runs from 1 January to 31 December and the full subscription is payable from whenever a new member joins.

SHOW LEVY

The society performs two shows each year and members taking part are required to pay a show levy, in addition to the subscription.

This levy is variable dependent to the venue and show, typically used to contribute to costs for our rehearsal space.

HOW DO I JOIN?

In the first instance contact the Membership Secretary by emailing secretary@readingops.co.uk or just come along to any of our regular rehearsals.

CAN I AUDITION FOR A PRINCIPAL PART IF I AM NOT A MEMBER?

Non-members may audition for principal roles but will be expected to join the Society if they are successful in the audition. An audition fee is payable by non-members.

Audition panels are held shortly after rehearsals begin for a show to select persons to play principal roles. Persons wishing to audition for a part must notify the Secretary not later than seven days before the proposed audition date specifying the role that s/he wishes to audition for so that the audition parts may be sent to them.

CAN I HELP THE SOCIETY WITHOUT BEING A MEMBER?

Many volunteers, who may not be members, help the Society by helping our fund-raising team or, during the week of the shows, by working back stage as stage crew, assisting the wardrobe mistress, helping with make-up, or being part of the front-of-house team. If you would like to be part of this support team please contact the Membership Secretary in the first instance.

You have to be a member and pass an audition panel to appear on stage.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE SOCIETY REHEARSE?

We rehearse each Monday and Thursday evening from 7.45pm to 10.30pm in the Church Hall, Earley St Peter’s, Church Road, Earley, Reading.

As the date of the show approaches the company will typically rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings, plus Sunday afternoons as required.
