The Pirates of Penzance

The Pirates of Penzance operetta performed by Reading Operatic SocietyReading Operatic Society performed WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance at The Hexagon, Reading on 7-11 Match 2006.

The show was a substitute for the originally planned Kiss Me Kate. It also marked the last show for long-standing rehearsal pianist Geraldine Braes, who moved to Devon.

A cast of 42 included the principals Kevin Goodfellow as Samuel, Keith Lawrence as The Pirate King, Jeff Trim as Frederic, Maggie Preston as Ruth, Tanya Beaney as Edith, Janet Lake as Kate, Tor Hartley as Isobel, Naomi Hinton as Mabel, Iain Whittaker as Major-General Stanley and Tony Slevin as Sergeant of the Police. The producer and choreographer was Jill Morgan and musical director John Lawes, alongside the Reading Operatic Society’s residential production team – David Parsonson production manager, Carol Hodgkinson stage manager and Geoff Bamford lighting designer.
