WHO CAN JOIN?
Anyone over the age of 16 years may apply to become a member of the Society. Membership is however subject to approval by the Committee and members who wish to perform on stage must satisfy an audition panel that they are of a suitable standard.

Age is not a barrier to membership, indeed some of the Society's most active members, currently performing on stage or participating in other essential tasks behind the scenes are over retirement age. While young people are actively encouraged the Society has a good range of ages in its membership.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
The subscription for membership is presently £84 a year for adult members although the amount due is reduced by £12 if timeous payment of the subscription is made at the beginning of the subscription year. Full-time students and under 18s are charged an annual subscription at half the adult rate. The subscription year runs from 1 January to 31 December and new members joining the Society after 1 January are required to pay an amount pro rata to the number of full months remaining in their first year. The Society performs two shows each year and members taking part are required to pay a contribution towards the cost of providing costumes, make-up etc - currently this is £40 a show.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

In the first instance contact the Membership Secretary julia@readingops.co.uk or just come along to any of our regular rehearsals.

CAN I AUDITION FOR A PRINCIPAL PART EVEN IF I AM NOT A MEMBER?
Audition panels are held shortly after rehearsals begin for a show to select persons to play principal roles. Persons wishing to audition for a part must notify the Secretary not later than seven days before the proposed audition date specifying the role that s/he wishes to audition for so that the audition parts may be sent to them.

Non-members may audition for principal roles, but a person wishing to do so is required to pay a non-returnable audition fee of £10.

CAN I HELP THE SOCIETY WITHOUT BEING A MEMBER?
Only members, who have satisfied an audition panel that they are of the required standard, may appear on stage in one of the Society's productions. However many volunteers, who may not be members, help the Society in other ways Ð by helping our fund-raising team or, during the week of the shows, by working back stage as stage crew, assisting the wardrobe mistress, helping with make-up, being part of the front-of-house team. If you would like to be part of this support team please contact the membership secretary in the first instance.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE SOCIETY REHEARSE?
We rehearse each Thursday evening from 7.45pm to 10pm in the Church Hall, Earley St Peters, Church Road, Earley, Reading. Principals also rehearse on Monday evenings. As the date of the show approaches the company will also rehearse on Monday evenings and the occasional Sunday afternoon.
